The zombie myth, aside from being a fun and spooky Halloween theme, is actually a very powerful metaphor of an ailment afflicting modern organizations. As an analogy to the zombie myth, we can say that there are employees who, for different reasons, forsake their soul and silently conform to what the system provides them with. Some do it to follow the political playbook that will allow them to move up the corporate ladder. Others do it to make peace with everyday nonsense and avoid being perceived as troublemakers. In either case, employee enthusiasm is weakened and the bottom line is hurt. Only with talent, commitment, and hard work can we win the battle against corporate “zombification.” This post explores this topic further.
